The delicious taste and colourful packaging of candy do a lot to attract customers to your shelves. But, you if you are serious about driving candy sales you cannot rely on your stock to sell itself. Follow these tips to sell more candy.

1. Put up POS signage

Attractive POS signage will draw customers’ eyes. Once customers see the mouthwatering candy depicted on the POS they will have a harder time resisting their sweet tooth.

2. Follow a plan

The planograms your suppliers provide are given to you for a reason: they are created with both the user experience and the potential for stimulating impulse sales in mind.

3. Offer sweet deals

Build excitement in the category by offering promotions. Colourful signage and the opportunity to save will attract customers.

4. Stock up on sharable

Larger formats are gaining popularity as more consumers are looking for value and seeing the c-gas channel as a destination for future consumption purchases. According to Nielsen data, take-home formats (or bags) are up 6.3% in sales since last year. Invest in larger formats and merchandise them in high traffic locations to capitalize on this trend.

5. Talk to your sales rep

Be prepared to ask your sales rep for advice on how to merchandise your product and on what product to purchase. Your sales rep has access to information on industry trends and will be able to share key insights.

6. Offer assortment.

Candy is a very segmented category: there are many textures, flavours and formats on the market. Talk to your sales representatives to ensure you have the optimal product mix for your store.

7. Be in season.

Generate excitement in the candy category by offering seasonal treats. Customers love to celebrate with candy, so offer chocolate eggs at Easter, cinnamon hearts on Valentine’s Day and so on.

8. Invest in innovation.

Everyone likes to try something new or different. Attract attention to your candy category by offering new and unique products. You may even bring an elapsed consumer back to the category with a new and exciting flavour option.
