Convenience Store Day has grown since 2012, and this year, 7 locations, 9 stores and 48 politicians got involved to raise awareness about what it’s like to be a convenience store owner, operator and employee.

On November 6, the Atlantic Convenience Stores Association (ACSA) held its fifth annual Retail Convenience Awards in Halifax, NS, sponsored by Atlantic Lottery.

The industry gathered to celebrate the companies and individuals who exemplify and promote excellence in the industry.

Twenty-one finalists were nominated in seven categories. Here are this year’s winners:

Independent Convenience Store Operator of the Year: Fred Saoud of Big General Store in Halifax, Nova Scotia

Corporate Operator of the Year, 2013: Margie Boone of Kenmount Corner Store in St. John’s, NL

Emerging Convenience Store Operator of the Year: Chad and Nic Howatt of Howatt’s Shell in Borden, PEI

Industry Partner (Regulatory) Award: Prince Edward Island Liquor Control Commission

Industry Partner Award: PepsiCo Beverages Canada

Innovative Beverage: Red Bull Editions

Innovative Product Award: Nestlé Skinny Cow Dreamy Clusters
