Lauren Abbasi
Customer Activation Leader
Mars Wrigley Canada
How did you get into this business?
My journey into this industry began in an unexpected but impactful way during a ‘Take Your Teen to Work’ day at Coca-Cola with my dad when I was in ninth grade. That experience left a lasting impression on me. Seeing the inner workings of such a globally recognized brand sparked a deep curiosity and appreciation for the world of manufacturing. From that moment on, I knew I wanted to be part of an industry that combines innovation, scale, and the power of iconic brands.
What do you like most about your job?
Early in my career, I realized how energizing it is to work across many different functions. I have had the privilege to do so while experiencing roles in customer development, category, display design and retail operations. As the customer activation leader, I enjoy blending all my past roles using insights, strategy, and creativity to execute marketing activations that resonate with consumers.
What's the best advice you ever received?
Stay curious, even when you think you know the answer. That simple line has stuck with me throughout my career. It taught me that leadership isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about asking the right questions, staying open to new perspectives, and continuously learning. This growth mindset has helped me build lasting partnerships, navigate change with confidence, and lead with intention.
What excites you most about the future of this channel?
How it's evolving from a transactional space into a more dynamic, customer-focused experience. Gas and convenience stores are no longer just about fuel and snacks—they're becoming smarter, more personalized, and more relevant to how people live, travel, and shop. The blending of technology, better assortment, and real-time data opens up so many creative possibilities for engaging customers in new ways. It’s a rare opportunity to embrace change and reimagine a legacy retail model while meeting the needs of a new generation.
What trend or innovation will shape the business in the next three years?
Gas and convenience stores are going to feel more like a smart retail hub with the increased integration of technology. Investments in this area will enable seamless experiences like self-checkouts, mobile apps, and personalized offers, which will provide people with more reasons to come in and come back. By embracing technology, this channel can turn quick stops into meaningful and repeatable visits.
