The British Columbia government introduced a 10-point plan last week to protect youth from the health risks of vaping that includes cutting nicotine content in vapour pods, restricting flavours aimed at young people, increasing taxes on products and supporting youth-led anti-vaping campaigns.
According to Health Canada, more than 75% of specialty vape shops are selling and promoting products that violate federal laws, including the sale of flavours, such as cake, cookies and candy, designed to appeal to youth.
Prince Edward Island is on the verge of passing strict measures to regulate the use of vaping products, including what would be the highest age restriction in the country.
Smokers will soon see their cigarette packs stripped of logos and distinctive designs as federal rules make drab brown the default colour for tobacco brands.
The Tobacco Product Regulations (Plain and Standardized Appearance) calls for the use of drab dark brown colour on packs and prohibits the use of any design elements, logos or product branding.
