How did you get into this industry? 

I started my career in advertising at community newspapers, as my husband I moved around Canada to support his career I shifted to focus on my love of retail. I embraced the opportunity to join an international leader, which seemed fitting as I have been a customer of 7-Eleven in many of the countries we have been fortunate to visit.

Favourite thing about your job? 

7-Eleven is on the forefront of identifying and implementing new ways of doing business. We were the first convenience retailer to enter the delivery space and first to roll out mobile check-out. No two days are the same and there are always unexpected challenges to solve. Did I mention the fast pace?   

Biggest challenge of your career? 

Earlier in my career, we moved a lot; this was both the biggest challenge and the biggest opportunity. 

Best advice received? 

Success starts with strong relationships. Have fun and try to learn something new every day.

Career highlight? 

My role in transforming our in-store experience and establishing myself as a go-to team member. I also led the marketing and opening celebrations of an acquisition that grew our store count by more than 125 stores overnight

What are you most proud of? 

Navigating the ever-changing COVID-19 landscape, which required the ability to quickly pivot and respond to different regulations in all the provinces and cities that we operate. 

What excites you most about the future?  

The digital evolution that is transforming convenience allows us to serve customers on their terms without losing our identity. Regardless of where, when or even how our customer needs a Slurpee, we’re in their neighbourhood 24/7.  

Leadership style? 

A relationship builder. I look to understand one’s strengths, enjoy really getting to know people and ultimately building strong relationships with co-workers, peers, customers and business partners.

I feel very privileged to be surrounded by so many strong, passionate, successful women – all of whom have persevered, nurtured and led our industry through all of the challenges of the past few interesting years.
