2026 Future Leader in Convenience + Car Wash winner: ALEX CUNNINGHAM

Shift manager, CARLETON COUNTRY OUTFITTERS
1/6/2026

Alex Cunningham is deeply involved in the family-owned c-gas operation, which is a cornerstone in the community of Carleton, N.S.

Known as the 'go-to' person for a vast range of tasks, Cunningham's responsibilities extend far beyond his official title. He manages staff, oversees health and safety, handles daily operations from stocking shelves and gas sales to running the coffee shop, and even assists with accounting, scheduling, technology, and balancing the cash.

Carleton Country Outfitters owner Jennifer Cunningham highlights his invaluable contributions, particularly his embrace of new technologies. "Alex has shown us new ways with new technologies," she notes. His innovations include developing an electronic gas dip book, now shared with many companies to meet Nova Scotia environment requirements, and creating checklists to adhere to Nova Scotia health and labour standards. She adds, "From IT to plumbing and electrical, Alex is our go-to."

Cunningham is also deeply committed to his community as a volunteer fireman and medical first responder, involved with search and rescue by coordinating Project Lifesaver Nova Scotia. His dedication to family was recently demonstrated when he stepped up to manage all operations while Jennifer recovered from an injury.
