General manager, operations

Siksika Group of Companies

How did you get into this business?

After working in administration for two years, the accounts department for 15 years and then 10 years in transportation, I felt the need to try something different, so I stepped out of my comfort zone and went into retail.

What are you most proud of?

I am proud of the retail area’s improvements in upkeep of the facilities, training where needed and generating revenue and good customer service. I am also proud the retail businesses are 100% First Nation-owned and employ our Nation members.

What do you like most about your job?

I enjoy learning, sharing new ideas and working with our team to find ways to improve and continue to serve the customers. Having a team that works together and supports one another makes the job enjoyable.

Biggest career challenge?

One of my biggest challenges was learning the ins and outs of the retail industry while finding effective ways to increase traffic and attract customers to the retail plaza.

Best advice received:

‘Continue learning, stay open to different perspectives and always remember your value and capabilities' and, ‘success can be found when you have competing views and opinions.’

Career highlight?

My biggest achievement was being promoted from store manager to general manager of operations—a milestone that reflected my dedication, growth and leadership within the organization

What excites you most about the future of this channel?

I am excited to continue learning and exploring new trends in retail, while adapting to the ongoing changes in the industry and the world around us. I look forward to trying new ideas, driving improvement and finding innovative ways to better serve our customers and teams.
