2026 Star Women in Convenience winner: Jule Chan
Jule Chan
Corporate governance and contracts manager
JTI-Macdonald Corp.
How did you get into this business?
Somewhat by luck. I was working at a law firm in a role that wasn’t very fulfilling. Out of the blue, a recruiter reached out to me about an opportunity with JTI and I decided to take a chance on it. That decision ended up changing the course of my career. Eight years later, I haven’t looked back and I’m incredibly grateful I took that leap.
What do you like most about your job?
Collaborating with colleagues—supporting others, contributing to shared success and taking satisfaction in the team’s achievements without needing to be in the spotlight.
Biggest career challenge?
One of the most meaningful challenges in my career has been learning to balance family life and motherhood with my professional responsibilities, striving to be present and committed in both areas.
What’s the best career advice you’ve received?
Early in my career, I received invaluable advice: observe how people interact and work and use those insights to focus on being reliable before striving to be impressive.
How do you define yourself as a leader?
I lead by example. I hold myself accountable for my actions and take responsibility for both my successes and my mistakes. I also make a habit of self-reflection, regularly checking in with myself to grow, improve and maintain high personal standards.
