Hasty Market expands new 'The Market On' concept
Just over a year after launching The Market On James in downtown Hamilton, Hasty Market is set to open its second location under the banner in Ingersoll, bringing the curated fresh-focused convenience model to a small but growing city. Called The Market On Culloden, it’s slated to start welcoming customers in the first week of June.

Marietta Cini, VP of operations and development at Burlington, Ont.-headquartered Hasty Market, says Ingersoll is a good choice for the brand for a few reasons.
“We selected it to validate the concept in a suburban market that also offers strong highway visibility and access,” the 2023 Star Women in Convenience winner tells CSNC. “With a growing population base and its strategic proximity to Highway 401, Ingersoll is ideal for testing both quick, grab-and-go visits and full-basket shopping trips.”
The Ingersoll store, located at 146 Culloden Road, sits across from a large Home Hardware Building, near a Subway and just minutes from the 401.
Ingersoll’s population clocked shy of 14,000 in the 2021 Census. But it’s on pace to jump to nearly 23,000 by 2061, according to an assessment of Oxford County by consulting firm Watson and Associates in Mississauga, Ont. and Dillon Consulting of London, Ont.
Oxford County is made up of three southwestern Ontario municipalities: Ingersoll, Woodstock and Tillsonburg.
The Market On Culloden will mirror the look and feel of the Market On James, though on a smaller scale—3,000 sq. ft. compared to 5,000. “Our HMR program will not include hot food as it is a smaller store, but will carry a good assortment of grab-and-go items,” says Cini. “Customers will still be able to shop core items to create full baskets.”

That includes fresh produce and a full selection of beer and wine.
In fact, 80% of the SKUs from the flagship store will also be available in Ingersoll.
“We’ll carry the top-performing items from Hamilton to ensure customers find the ‘house favourites’ they know and love,” says Cini. The remaining 20% will be devoted to local preferences and trends. “This space will adapt to Ingersoll’s tastes—featuring community partners, seasonal events and on-trend specialties unique to the market.”
She adds that The Market On Culloden will serve as a testing ground for a pilot program. “We’re also rolling out a gourmet frozen-food lineup as a test—an innovation not offered in Hamilton—to gauge demand and refine our frozen assortment for future rollouts.”
Hasty Market has 130 Hasty stores across Ontario and is looking to further scale its The Market On banner.
Another Hamilton store is under development, with an opening slated for August 2025, and Hasty is finalizing leases in both Kitchener and Oshawa, with a goal of launching those The Market On stores by no later than the fourth quarter.
“Alongside these openings, we’ve had several encouraging conversations with prospective franchisees, and we aim to secure two additional franchise agreements before year-end,” says Cini. “We’re thrilled to bring our concept back to a suburban market and look forward to connecting with the Ingersoll community. We’re confident that our franchisees will provide an exceptional, world-class experience for every guest.”
