2026 Impact Awards Winner: McDougall Energy
Since 1949, McDougall Energy has prioritized more than just fuel—it has focused on the people and communities it serves. Throughout 2025 and into 2026, the Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.-based company furthered that legacy by championing a wide range of charitable organizations.
The company’s philanthropic efforts have spanned the province, with a particular focus on emergency services and healthcare. A combined $20,000 contribution was directed to hospitals and fire services across southwestern Ontario. The funding supported the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital Foundation, the Bluewater Health Foundation, the St. Marys Memorial Hospital Foundation, the St. Marys Fire Fighters Association, Central Elgin Fire Rescue and Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue.
As the 2025 holiday season approached, the company expanded its reach, donating $75,000 to 23 charities province-wide to support youth, families and individuals facing hardship.
The company has also taken a long-term approach to food security through a three-year partnership with Harvest Algoma. McDougall Energy has pledged $5,000 annually in fuel support to the regional food resource centre, which focuses on protecting the environment and reducing poverty by rescuing and distributing surplus food.
In the sports arena, a high-energy collaboration with the OHL’s Soo Greyhounds has generated $38,000 to benefit schools, sports teams and charitable organizations in Sault Ste. Marie. The program brings fans together at the rink while creating meaningful opportunities to give back; funds raised through the team’s “Chuck-a-puck” events are matched by McDougall Energy, effectively doubling the donations received.
Beyond financial support, the company is taking a hands-on approach to community engagement. Employees have committed their time to volunteer efforts, including preparing meals for those in need at local non-profit organizations, such as St. Vincent Place.
By weaving together financial investment and grassroots volunteerism, McDougall Energy continues to strengthen the fabric of the communities where its employees live and work.
