Shell Canada joins Scene+ loyalty network, expanding rewards across fuel and convenience
Shell Canada is joining the Scene+ loyalty partner network, creating new opportunities for consumers to earn and redeem rewards on fuel, car washes and eligible convenience store purchases at more than 1,400 Shell locations across Canada.
The partnership brings together Shell, Scene+, Scotiabank and Tangerine, expanding the reach of one of Canada’s largest loyalty programs into fuel and convenience retail. Scene+ has more than 15 million members and is co-owned by Scotiabank, Empire Company Limited and Cineplex Inc.
For convenience retailers operating Shell-branded locations, the integration is expected to drive increased visit frequency and basket size as customers are able to earn Scene+ points on everyday fuel purchases and redeem rewards on select in-store items.
“Partnering with Scene+, Scotiabank and Tangerine is a major step forward for our loyalty and partner programs, creating the best experience for our customers to save and earn rewards when they visit Shell,” said Kent Martin, general manager, Shell Canada Mobility and Convenience, in a press release. “In addition to instant savings, customers will soon be able to earn and redeem rewards on fuel, car washes and eligible convenience store purchases—making every visit more rewarding.”
Scene+ executives say fuel was a key category members had been requesting.
“We listened to our members when they told us they wanted a fuel loyalty partner,” said Tracey Pearce, president of Scene+, in the release. “As a leader in the fuel industry, Shell is an ideal partner for our ecosystem. Expanding our footprint both online and in-store gives members more ways to earn faster and use their rewards in everyday life.”
The program also integrates with eligible Scotiabank and Tangerine payment cards, allowing cardholders to get additional benefits such as instant savings at participating Shell locations and point earnings.
Tangerine said the offering aligns with growing consumer demand for simple, everyday savings tied to routine purchases such as fuel. “This new offering provides seamless instant savings on fuel purchases and benefits that go further,” said Gaurav Singh, senior vice president of client solutions and retail banking at Tangerine, in the release.
Scene+ members will earn on every transaction with one Scene+ point per litre on all Shell fuel and one Scene+ point per $1 on eligible convenience retail.
The rollout will begin in Alberta on March 3, 2026, with national expansion scheduled for May 26, 2026.
BMO replacing Air Miles
Meanwhile, BMO Financial Group has announced it will replace Air Miles with a new loyalty program called Blue Rewards in the summer, further intensifying competition among financial institutions and retail partners for everyday consumer spending.
The new program will be available to all Canadians through a redesigned Blue Rewards app and will also be integrated into BMO’s mobile banking app and website. BMO said collectors will continue earning points at more than 400 brands.
Blue Rewards will expand partnerships with quick-service and fast-casual restaurant brands through MTY Group, including Thai Express, Baton Rouge, Pizza Delight, Allo Mon Coco, Sushi Shop, Mr. Sub, Manchu Wok, Mucho Burrito and Jugo Juice as well as grocery delivery platform Instacart.
