Gas stations and convenience stores may soon see greater availability of Canadian-made bulk washer fluid dispensers, as EcoTank Canada invests $1.67 million to expand domestic production and create 30 new jobs in Dufferin-Caledon, northwest of Toronto.

The announcement was made Feb. 20 in Orangeville, Ont., by Sylvia Jones, MPP for Dufferin-Caledon.

The investment will fund construction of a new manufacturing facility in Dufferin County and the installation of an additional assembly line. The expansion will allow EcoTank to reshore production of its washer fluid dispensing systems from Europe to Ontario, strengthening its supply chain and increasing domestic manufacturing capacity.

For fuel retailers, EcoTank’s refill systems offer customers a bulk alternative to pre-packaged plastic jugs, reducing single-use plastic while creating an additional revenue opportunity at the pump island or in-store. The company says local production will help keep costs competitive and support expanded distribution across North America.

Environmentally friendly

“EcoTank is transforming the way consumers refill washer fluid in their vehicles by offering a solution that is not only more convenient, but significantly more environmentally friendly than traditional plastic jugs,” said Robbie Mair, CEO and founder of EcoTank, in a media release. “With the support of the Government of Ontario, we’ve accelerated our growth and established a new facility in Dufferin County, enabling us to manufacture our bulk washer fluid dispensers locally and export them across North America.”

The Ontario government is supporting the project with $239,102 through its Regional Development Program’s Southwestern Ontario Development Fund.

“By supporting strategic investments from regional businesses, our government is protecting Ontario’s workers and creating the conditions for a strong stable, and resilient economy that can weather any storm,” said Jones. “EcoTank’s investment will support growth and innovation across the local manufacturing sector and create more good-paying jobs for workers and families in Orangeville.”

Ontario has invested more than $230 million through its Regional Development Program to support manufacturers across the province. To date, the program has backed more than 180 projects, leveraging over $2.6 billion in private-sector investment and supporting the creation of more than 5,500 jobs.
