The Toronto Star is reporting that Mill Street Brewing, founded 2022 by Steve Abrams, Jeff Cooper and Michael Duggan, will be moving out of its main North York brewery facility and moving production to Labatt’s plant in London, Ont.

According to the report, Labatt Brewing Company which purchased Mill Street Brewing in 2015, decided not to renew the lease of the North York location due to increasing lease rates in the area.

Thirty-nine people will be out of work due to the shuttering of the operation. Labatt says it if offering the impacted employees the opportunity to apply for other positions in Labatt’s operations.

“Industrial lease rates in North York have increased substantially and we have existing capacity within our Ontario brewing network,” Labatt spokesperson Hannah Love said in an email sent to The Toronto Star.

Mill Street’s other brewpub operations located at Toronto’s Pearson International, the Distillery District, and in Ottawa at 555 Wellington St, will continue to operate normally.

Mill Street’s North York brewery has the capacity to brew up to 25 million litres of beer a year. However, the brew facility in London, Ontario, which is one of largest in Canada, can produce up to 200 million litres of beer a year.
