PepsiCo Inc. and Beyond Meat Inc. are planning a vegan jerky snack, according to a Bloomberg report.

This is will be the first product to come of the Planet Partnership joint venture the companies announced in January 2021. The partnership is designed to draw on the strengths of both companies to create, produce and market plant-based snacks and drinks.

Pepsi CEO Ramon Laguarta said in September that the company was targeting early 2022 for its first product launch. The venture is being led by Pepsi veteran Dan Moisan.

This won't be the first plant-based jerky to market. For instance, Conagra Brands Inc. offers the Gardein Ultimate Plant-based Jerky, made from wheat and soy. In addition, several start-ups are also tapping into the hunger for plant-based jerky.
