Saint John, N.B.-based Petro Service Limited has acquired Calgary-based MI Petro, strengthening its presence in Western Canada and expanding its coast-to-coast fueling services network.

The acquisition, announced Monday, brings together two Canadian companies with more than three decades of experience in fuelling infrastructure and related services. MI Petro operates in Alberta and British Columbia and has served as a Gilbarco distributor for more than 30 years.

Founded in 1985, Petro Service has grown from a small gas-pump rebuilding operation into one of the country’s fastest-growing petroleum service providers. The company now delivers petroleum, electric vehicle (EV) charging and car wash infrastructure services and employs about 180 people across eight branches nationwide.

“This acquisition represents a significant milestone in our growth journey,” said Laurent Frenette, president of PetroService, in a media release. “MI Petro brings a highly skilled team, a strong reputation in Western Canada, and long-standing relationships with some of the country’s most recognizable retail fuelling brands.”

MI Petro, headquartered in Calgary with a branch in Maple Ridge, B.C., employs 23 people, including 10 technicians. The company has delivered complex fueling projects for national customers including 7-Eleven, Canadian Tire, Canco, Circle K and BG Fuels.

“Joining PetroService allows us to build on our legacy while gaining access to expanded resources and a truly national platform,” said Kim Hansen, president of MI Petro, in a media release. “Our customers will continue to receive the same high level of service they expect, while benefiting from enhanced capabilities and long-term investment.”

PetroService said it has invested heavily in western operations over the past eight years, and the acquisition is expected to accelerate that growth strategy. The company’s workforce is primarily based in Atlantic Canada, with additional locations in Quebec, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta.

Both organizations said they share a focus on safety, technical excellence and community involvement.

The acquisition is effective immediately. PetroService said employees will be retained and customers should not experience any disruption to ongoing projects or services.
