On World No Tobacco Day, company increases focus on alternatives for adult consumers and commits to delivering 'A Better Tomorrow' with sustainability initiatives.

Strategy includes Suncor helping its customers contribute to a net-zero world by providing them with cleaner energy choices such as renewable fuels and the Petro-Canada Electric Highway.

In the short-term, however, the International Energy Agency expects global oil demand to reach around 99 million barrels per day by year-end -- up from 93 million barrels per day in the first quarter of 2021.

The pandemic has changed consumer buying criteria, but the move to more sustainable packaging and products is accelerating.

Observers say the program needs to be more relevant to low or middle-income consumers, rather than only those able to buy brand new.

The five big companies include, Canadian Natural Resources Ltd., Suncor Energy Inc., Imperial Oil Ltd., Cenovus Energy Inc. and MEG Energy Corp.

Focus is on clean transportation; energy efficiency; renewable energy; pollution prevention and control; sustainable water and wastewater management in car washes; and green buildings.
