Old Dutch Foods opens energy-efficient facility in PEI
Old Dutch Foods has expanded its Atlantic Canadian presence with the opening of a new energy-efficient warehouse and accounting office facility in Slemon Park in Summerside, PEI.
The 8,400-square-foot site officially opened in February 2026. It brings together office and warehouse operations under one roof, designed to streamline work while cutting energy use.
Sustainable features and zero carbon footprint
The building uses no fossil fuels and releases zero carbon dioxide into the air. It relies on a combination of green power features to lower its environmental impact.
A solar power setup with an array measuring about 160 metres is expected to generate roughly 40 kilowatts of electricity. For temperature control, the site uses geothermal heating and cooling powered by 16 boreholes connected through a vertical closed-loop system that trades heat between the ground and the building. An energy recovery ventilation system also cleans indoor air while capturing heat from outgoing air to warm incoming fresh air, saving energy in all seasons.

Investing in Canadian operations and communities
Old Dutch Foods has supplied snack products to Canadians for more than 70 years. Company executives say the investment reflects a desire to support staff and communities while building a cleaner future.

The PEI site joins other eco-friendly efforts by the company across its operations, including wastewater treatment systems, recycling programs and projects that divert food waste for practical reuse.
