As of 2022, the "Slurpee Capital of The World" was Winnipeg, Manitoba. However, there's a new fighter in the ring, who is ready to steal the title from the long-standing champion.

Calgary, Alberta is edging ever closer to winning that title, and even Marc Goodman, the vice-president and general manager for 7-Eleven Canada is impressed. “Calgary is really closing in on that gap and with some pretty impressive Slurpee consumption over the past few years,” said Goodman in an interview with Global News.

During annual promotional events like Name Your Price Day, Slurpee sales across Alberta (driven primarily by Calgary and Edmonton) routinely account for nearly one-third of all national Slurpee donations across Canada.

Goodman says the title is based on per capita consumption; the amount of recent store closures did have an effect on overall sales. According to 7-Eleven's statistics, an average of 188,833 Slurpees sold per month in Winnipeg alone.

Statistics from 7-Eleven report that locations across Winnipeg normally out-pace the monthly average of the rest of Canada combined (179,700 per month). The city's love for that icy beverage even inspired Winnipeg to name a street "Slurpee Way" in 2018.

Calgary may be second in place as the Slurpee Capital of the World at the moment, but the city is the first in Canada to catch the fever for the frozen drink. 7-Eleven's inaugural location opened in Mount Pleasant, Calgary in 1969, making it the birthplace of Canadian Slurpee consumption.
