BC Hydro to triple EV-charging network to 3,500 ports by 2035
British Columbia's Crown power utility is planning to add more than 2,500 public charging ports for electric vehicles, tripling the size of its network by 2035.
The province's Transport Ministry says the expansion of BC Hydro's network to 3,500 ports will be along major highway corridors and in communities across the province, supported by a $700-million investment.
Energy Minister Adrian Dix says in a news release that more B.C. residents are purchasing electric vehicles as fuel prices increase, and the government needs to make sure people can count on a reliable charging network.
The plan includes faster charging technology, larger charging hubs and new customer features such as washrooms.

The ministry says "faster, future-ready" 200-kilowatt chargers will be the network standard, with 400-kilowatt ultrafast chargers at some high-demand locations.
It says the expansion of BC Hydro's current 917 ports at 190 locations will both support long-distance travel and help match growing adoption of electric vehicles.
