Cold weather usually signals a shift toward hot beverages but Canadian convenience store operators have an opportunity to capture counter-seasonal cold vault sales this winter.

Rapid hydration brand Electrolit is launching its Peak Hydration retail campaign across Canada, enlisting Canadian professional freestyle skier Janelle Yip to lead the charge. Running through early January 2027, the seasonal push aims to keep sports drinks and functional beverages top of mind when temperatures drop.

The seasonal push lands directly on convenience shelves and gas bars, with participating banners including 7-Eleven, Circle K, Couche-Tard, Shell, On the Run and Petro-Canada, as well as broader grocery and pharmacy chains. For c-store retailers, the initiative tackles a common category hurdle: keeping cold functional beverage volume steady during the freezing Canadian winter.

Turning winter sports and holiday travel into c-store trips

Hydration messaging often concentrates in July and August, but dehydration still remains an issue during sub-zero sports, long-haul highway travel and packed holiday schedules. By spotlighting Yip in snowy conditions, the campaign directly reframes electrolyte drinks as essential equipment for cold-weather activities rather than just summer heat relief.

Yip, who trains and competes in Canadian winter conditions, noted that maintaining hydration is a personal priority throughout the snowy months. “I’m excited to see Electrolit bring Peak Hydration to winter retail and connect with consumers who are getting out there and making the most of the season, wherever it may take them.” That authentic connection gives forecourt retailers a natural story to merchandise to weekend warriors picking up grab-and-go fuel on their way to the slopes, cross-country trails or family holiday gatherings.

Targeting impulse buyers through sweepstakes

Electrolit is rolling out dedicated in-store merchandising displays to command attention at high-traffic floor areas and near the checkout counter, focusing on their Peak Hydration contest, displaying sweepstakes offering five $1,000 The North Face gift cards.

Secondary displays that highlight major consumer prizes help lift basket ring size and give passing foot traffic a reason to pick up a bottle instead of walking past the cooler.

Operators giving functional hydration prime placement alongside hot beverage bars and seasonal grab-and-go snacks stand to see sales heat up with this winter-focused campaign.
